About this event

Florian Bruneau wanted to make wine, not cider, so he was destined to leave his native Normandy. And once he started travelling, he kept moving, pursuing harvests around the globe and furthering his wine education. Though he is only in his early 30s, he has made wine in Champagne, Burgundy, Corsica, Napa Valley and Barossa Valley.

He is passionate about sustainability, organics, biodynamics and low intervention winemaking, and is a talented winemaker and energetic force. Working with the estate’s founder Tom Hills, he is developing Domaine La Lauzeta, adding new wines to the range and leading their conversion to biodynamic farming.

The estate was founded in 2015 by Tom, after he purchased two dry farmed vineyards on the schist hillsides of Saint-Chinian, the Languedoc, France, comined them, and began the organic conversion on day one. Tom inherited Grenache, Syrah and Carignan vines, and has since planted Vermentino, Grenache Gris and Macabeu. Lauzeta’s wines have garnered good review from eminent wine critics Jancis Robinson, Tamlyn Currin and Jeb Dunnock, and are listed at 17 Michelin-starred restaurants in France.

2021 releases from the estate have been eagerly anticipated, and Florian is coming to England to present them. A whirlwind tour finishes with a couple of days in Norwich.

Full of Springtime optimism, we’ve hired the Greenhouse courtyard on Sunday May 15th, from 3.30 to 5.30pm so Florian can lead an informal outdoor tasting with up to 20 people.

We’ll pair the wines with vegetarian canapés made by Hannah Bingley. Early adopters of Substrata may remember the imaginative canapés we served at The Book Hive event pre-pandemic. Hannah made these under the guise of The English Canapé Company.

But outside of Downing Street, there’s been a shortage of parties to cater for since. So like many entrepreneurs, Hannah had to try her hand at something new, and started to grow and sell plants, herbs and flowers, which you can explore on her Instagram page. An industrious soul, she continues to offer private catering services as well, and we’re delighted to work with her again.
