Portugal’s Dāo region once had a thriving local tradition of making field blends – wines from vineyards planted with numerous varieties, all of which were picked at the same time and co-fermented. Biodynamic producers Casa de Mouraz keep this tradition alive, and there are 15 different indigenous Portuguese varietals in this wine, The juice is fermented in concrete, ensuring a cool fermentation temperature, a rounded texture, and that the flavour comes from the fruit and the earth.
Sara Dionisio and António Lopes Ribeiro are bravely rebuilding their 13 hectare estate in the Dāo region, after six hectares of vines were burned by a forest fire in 2017. Their wine warehouse and António’s ancestral family home, were also consumed by the blaze. We are delighted to be supporting their efforts by selling their delicious wines.
