Izway, Mataro 2019
4 in stock
Izway have the only off grid winery in Barossa Valley. They have established relationships with two local growers, and source (both organic and non-organic) fruit from a variety of local terroirs to create their range of powerful and warming reds. They use the Valley’s stand out varieties: Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro (or as the French would say, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre).
This is single varietal Mataro – the undersung hero of the valley. Late ripening, it needs Barossa’s heat to bring out its full character. And there is plenty of character here! Bold flavours of black cherry, blackberry, fig, liquorice. The ripe fruit is supported by judicious oak ageing, adding vanilla and clove spice.
Sturdy and well structured, this is a full bodied wintry treat. Enjoy it now or cellar it for up to three years.
Izway wines are exclusive to Substrata in the UK.
