Bottle fermented sparkler, with 18 months on the lees, made from Baga, a variety more often associated with robust reds. Yeasty and toasty, with a generous mousse and persistent bubbles. Assertive cherry and redcurrant fruit, plus aromas of rose petals and bitter-tinged citrus (pomelo, grapefruit), and an earthy undertone.
Montalto are a mixed organic farm about an hour’s drive from Lisbon; they make an impressive array of wines from indigenous Portuguese varieties, and over the past few years have taken on several local abandoned vineyards, and nursed old vines back into production.
