The height of Summer might be passed, but we’re not ready to cower indoors just yet. Indeed, this is the magical time of year for wine lovers – fruition and harvest:

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
  Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
  With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;

So join us for one last al fresco event for 2025 – an early Autumn tasting in the Greenhouse courtyard, where the 30 year-old grape vine should be showing off plenty of grapes.

We’re delighted to be working with Rambling Roots again, who are working on another menu of mouthwatering canapés to complement our wine list, which is made up of Substrata exclusives suited to the season.

Sparkling White: Quinta do Montalto, Pim Pam Pum Pet Nat 2023 (Lisbon, Portugal. 13.5%). Lightly sparkling, fresh & yeasty.

Orange:  Quinta do Montalto, Pim Pam Pum Curtimenta 2022 (Lisbon, Portugal. 12% )Medium bodied Portuguese orange, with notes of Seville orange marmalade, dried apricots and almonds on the palate.

Canapé:  Oatcake with La Fauxmargerie Brixton Blue and roasted white grapes

White: Smallfry Wines, Isolar  2023 (Barossa Valley, Australia. 13.2%) Barrel-fermented and full-bodied Intensely flavoursome with exotic notes of honeysuckle, pineapple and mango.

Canapé:  Spiced Patty Pan squash empanada with a paprika aioli dip

Red: Quinta do Montalto, Ânfora de Baco tinto (Lisbon, Portugal. 14%) Smooth, medium-bodied, amphora-fermented red, a blend of Aragonez (Tempranillo), Syrah and Trincadeira. Notes of plum, fig and pine, and a slight vegetal note.

Canapé:  Grilled polenta with late season tomatoes and fig & chilli jam

Red: Smallfry Wines, Blue Gene Baby Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 (Barossa Valley, Australia.14.4%) Full bodied and supple red. Bursts with blackberry and blackcurrant fruit flavours. Ten months in oak helped round out the tannins.

Canapé:  Herbed mushroom & lentil croquette, with a shallot & blackberry sauce

Sweet (dessert) white: Quinta do Montalto, Cepa Pura late harvest 2023 (Lisbon, Portugal. 10%) Deep golden in colour, with notes of honey and burstingly ripe apricots

Canapé: Pasteis de nata – flaky puff pastry with a fragrant baked custard
