About Churton, ‘Best End’ Sauvignon Blanc 2018
A real rarity – a single vineyard Sauvignon from Marlborough, New Zealand.
In a region where viticulture is fully mechanised, vineyards are often long, straight strips of land, planted on the fertile valley floor.
At Churton, by contrast, the vineyards are planted to repeat the topography of the hillside, and all vineyard work is done by hand. The 22 hectares of vines are divided into 17 different parcels, each with different aspects. The 17 parcels are named after parts of a cow, the sacred animal of biodynamic farming.
‘Best End’ seems best suited to Sauvignon Blanc, with low yields of fruit with an intensely mineral character. This one is fermented and matured in barrel, offering some deftly integrated hints of sweet spice to the notes of passionfruit and melon.
