About Montalto Six Pack

Quinta do Montalto are based about 90 minutes’ drive north from Lisbon, in the (large) Lisboa DOC. They have 50 hectares of land, including orchards, forest, olive groves and over 15 hectares of vines. They also grow and sell organic vegetables, and make and sell jams and vinegars. They are passionate about preserving traditional varieties, and traditional methods, and make an impressive array of wines from indigenous Portuguese varieties.

This six pack gives a comprehensive introduction to their more ambitious cuvées. It comprises two traditional (Champagne) method sparkling wines, a skin-contact/orange wine, and two wines fermented in tinajas, Portuguese amphorae, which are coated with natural pine resin. The crowning glory is the Medieval de Ourém, made in accordance with a recipe handed down from Cistercian monks who settled in the area in the 12th Century.

Vinha da Malhada, Bruto 2022 (12%) Traditional/Champagne method dry sparkling white, made from Arinto and Fernão Pires. Gold medal winner at Spain’s Catavinum Wine * Spirits Competition in 2024. Lemon, bergamot, toast

Vinha da Malhada, Baga Bruto 2021 (13%)
Partner wine – a traditional method dry sparkling rosé, with 18 months lees ageing, made from the grape variety Baga. Raspberry, redcurrant, hazelnut

Pim Pam Pum Curtimenta, Skin Contact, 2022 (12%)  New orange wine! ’Curtimenta’ means ‘skin-contact’, indicating that the grape juice has been fermented on its skins, lending this wine a deep golden-orange hue, more body and more mouthfeel.  Judges at the Catavinum awarded this vintage a gold medal in both 2023 and 2024. Orange blossom, apricot, almond

Medieval de Ourém 2023 (14%) Unique wine, made from 80% (white) Fernão Pires and 20% (red) Trinadeira grapes. Enjoyed chilled, it tastes like a white wine; at room temperature, like a red. Nectarine, cherry, liquorice

Ânfora de Baco Branco 2022 (12.5%)
Full flavoured Fernão Pires, fermented in an amphora. Time on the lees and on the skins lends this wine significant body and a waxy, resinous texture, reminding us of a Chenin Blanc.  Lemon peel, lime, beeswax

Ânfora de Baco Tinto 2022 (12%)
A partner red – a soft and supple blend of Aragonez (the local name for Tempranillo), Syrah & Touriga Nacional.  Pine, blackberry, dark chocolate
