About Freire Lobo, Granite Terroir Red Field Blend
A full bodied and well structured red, with notes of black cherry, fig and green pepper.
Portugal’s Dão region has a long tradition of making field blends from mixed planted vineyards, co-fermenting the different varieties of grapes to produce a wine that offers an impression of a specific site.
This 2021 vintage features even different grape varieties, with an average vine age of 60 years. The grapes were foot-trodden in temperature-controlled stainless steel lagares, before being moved to used French oak barrels for 18 months. Further bottle ageing has rounded the tannins nicely, making it ready to drink – a deft accompaniment to a red meats, creamy blue cheeses or hearty, slow-cooked dishes.
