About Stefan Sander, Spätburgunder, ‘Vom Löss”
Spätburgunder is the German name for Pinot Noir; literally, it means ‘late Burgundian’ – ripening after the other (apparent) Burgundians, Weißburgunder and Grauburgunder.
This 2019 vintage has surprising ripeness for a wine from the relatively northerly latitude of the Rheinhessen, in central Germany.
Expect ripe strawberry and raspberry fruit flavours, a slightly spicy black pepper finish, hints of vanilla from oak barrel ageing, and distinctive Pinot earthiness.
