About A Classic Christmas

We’ve  curated (and discounted) a collection of classic wines to offer a concentrated 48 hours of pleasure this Christmas.

Pievalta, Verdicchio Spumante Perlugo NV: perfect start to the Christmas holiday! A dry traditional method sparkler made from  in Italy’s Marche region from Verdicchio grapes. 18 months on the lees. Lemon, hazelnut, toast.

Domaine La Lauzeta, Corteza rosé 2021: our best-selling dry and pale rosé from a small, dry-farmed biodynamic estate in Saint-Chinian, the Languedoc. This blend of Grenache and Syrah makes a perfect aperitif for Christmas lunch, and would segue nicely into a seafood starter. White flowers, nectarine, redcurrant

Hayes Family Wines, Barossa Valley Semillon 2020: Made by a small family producer from Barossa’s flagship white grape variety, this is a textured and gastronomic wine perfect for turkey, goose or a nut roast. Lemon, red apple, oatmeal

Izway, Mataro 2020: And for those who prefer a red with their Christmas dinner… this dark, full-bodied and brooding wine is made from Mataro, a key but under-appreciated variety from the Barossa, this tine from the only off-grid producer in the Valley. Black cherry, violets, savouriness

Domaine La Lauzeta, Mezura rouge 2016: Another fine full-bodied red, this time from the schist soils of Saint-Chinian. This blend of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan comes alive with a little aeration, and would suit red meats, stuffing, rosemary-roasted vegetables. Blackberry, sage, iodine

Fasoli Gino Pieve Vecchia 2018: Distinctive, full-bodied and barrel-fermented Italian white. Made from Garganega grapes, picked in three tranches, each two weeks apart – the first pick to ensure good acidity, the second flavour development and the third opulent ripeness. The hot Summer of 2018 means that there’s a little residual sugar even at 15.5% abv, making this perfect with a plate of cold cuts, blue cheese and cranberry sauce on Boxing Day. Apricot, almond, butterscotch
