About A Natural Choice

We’ve curated a six pack of key natural wine styles, to make the perfect accompaniment to the festive season.

Freire Lobo, Vinho Branco ‘Sardanita’ Pet Nat: (12.5%)  Gloriously cloudy naturally sparkling wine. It’s a field blend of Portuguese grapes, with a bold yeastiness and surprisingly delicate flavours of lemon, elderflower and custard apple. Pop the cap on Christmas Eve, perhaps?…

Gardunha Sul, Vinho Rosé Castelão: (12.5%)  The second of four Portuguese wines in this mix. Very dark pink / almost light red in colour, but with the tangy crisp freshness of a rosé. Notes of hibiscus and umeboshi plum with a meaty, animal undertone. Good accompaniment to a seafood starter.

Gardunha Sul, ‘Gatafunho’ Branco: (11.5%)  A skin contact white or orange wine, with minimal tannin and delicate flavours of blood orange, dried apricot and cinnamon. This is a wonderfully fresh and juicy wine, easy to drink informally when friends pop around; also good with seafood or spicy dishes.

Gardunha Sul, Primeiras Gotas, ‘Fonte’:  (13.5%)  A bold, succulent and rich skin contact/orange wine, made from a rarely-exported Portugese grape variety called Fonte Cal. Saline with notes of lemon and apricot and hints of almond to the finish. A natural choice for the Christmas table – enough body to pair with roasted white meats and poultry (even goose) or with nut roasts.

Smallfry, ‘Eclectik Violet: (12%)  Pleasingly pale, soft and drinkable, with minimal tannins. This blend of Grenache and Cinsault has notes of raspberry, strawberry and cherry, and a hint of almond. A new and lighter side to Barossa Valley reds, serve it from the fridge with a plate of leftovers when unexpected guests pop around.

Smallfry, ‘Stella Luna’:  (12%)  Floral notes of violets, fresh raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant fruits, with some meaty and gamey hints. Another Barossa red, this time a blend of Shiraz and Cinsault; though similarly modest in alcohol, it has more body and weight, and we like it best at room temperature. Pair with richer seasonal dishes: duck or mushroom wellington
