About Christmas, au naturel

You enjoy a good white Burgundy and a red Bordeaux as much as the next person, but this year, please, can we have something else for Christmas?

Why yes of course you can… if you’re a true natural wine lover, who longs for something unusual and distinctive (but still joyously drinkable), then go au naturel this Christmas.

L-r:
Freire Lobo, ‘Sardanita’ Pet Nat 2024 (The Dão, Portugal; 13%, £23)
Slightly cloudy naturally sparkling white. Lemon, elderflower, custard apple

Gardunha Sul, ‘Bica’ white 2024 (Beira Baixa, Portugal; 12.5%, £25)
Memorable cloudy white blend of Arinto and Siria grapes. Slightly oily on the palate, with notes of preserved lemon and fresh ginger. Perfect with seafood.

Domaine La Lauzeta, ‘Mezura’ rosé 2021 (St Chinian, the Languedoc, France; 13%, £27)
Who needs white Burgundy? Try this with your Christmas meal… Dry, full bodied, salmon-coloured rosé, with stone fruit and woody spice. Aged under a layer of flor yeast, sherry-style, for a year, this complex wine won gold at the Vinum World of Rosé Awards.

Smallfry Wines, ‘Tangerine Dream’ 2023 (Barossa Valley, Australia; 11.5%, £28)
Unfiltered, dry, natural orange field blend, made chiefly from Semillon and old vine Pedro Ximénez. Apricot, pink grapefruit, black pepper.

Smallfry Wines, ‘Starry, Starry Night’ 2022 (Barossa Valley, Australia; 12%, £28)
Light, ripe and juicy, bursting with bright red fruits – strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate. Can be served chilled.

Gardunha Sul, ‘Corricão’ 2024 (Beira Baixa, Portugal; 13%, £26)
Intriguing and distinctive medium bodied red. Bright acidity, and soft sweet fruit. Wild strawberry, cherry, balsamic.
