About Domaine de la Grande Bellane, Valréas 2021
The Rhône has one of the highest proportions of organic growers of any wine region, and the maritime influence is key to this; the Mistral, the hot wind that blows up the valley from North Africa and across the Mediterranean constantly refreshes the grape canopy, and inhibits the growth of fungal disease.
Made by Damien Marres, from his vineyard he inherited from his uncle, in the named village of Valréas in the Southern Rhône Valley. (The named villages are a couple of rungs up the reputation ladder from a Côtes du Rhône.)
Purple in hue, this unoaked, rich and spicy blend of Syrah and Grenache has been made without added sulphites.
