About Hayes, Fromm Vineyard, ‘Centenarian’ Semillon 2021

Brett Hayes sourced this fruit from the Fromm vineyard in Barossa Valley, which boasts Semillon planted over a hundred years ago. There’s both impressive concentration and a lightness of touch to this medium-bodied white.

Surprisingly bold aromas – a whole citrus spectrum (mandarin, yellow grapefruit), along with something riper – guava or mango perhaps. There are notes of chamomile, and of lemongrass.

And the taste is a lovely journey, revealing a touch of tannin and well-integrated oak; there’s good shape to the mid palate and a hint of salinity to the enjoyably long finish. The wine’s still echoing on your tastebuds as you take the next sip.
