About Hayes, Primrose Vineyard Chardonnay 2021
Looking for a special bottle?
This single vineyard offering from Hayes Family Wines might fit the bill.
Made from Chardonnay vines believed to be the oldest in South Australia, planted in 1975 in the town of, rather fittingly, Ebeneezer, in Northern Barossa, and so just 600 numbered bottles were made.
With plenty of time for the vine roots to dive deep into the subsoil (or the substrata, if you will), there’s pronounced minerality and salinity here. Plenty of bright citrus and stone fruit on the palate too, and a gentle seasoning of sweet spice from a judicious use of oak.
It would make a special gift for the white wine lover in your life, who could age it for a decade if they wished. But as it’s drinking so well now, there’s no need to wait – especially as it would make a great match for a Christmas meal, whether that’s a turkey or a nut roast with mushroom gravy…
