About Pim Pam Pum and His Amazing Friends

A new shipment from Lisboa has landed!

Quinta do Montalto are based about 90 minutes’ drive north from Lisbon, in the (large) Lisboa DOC. André Gomes Pereira currently heads the estate, which has been in his family for five generations.

The estate comprises 50 hectares of land, including orchards, forest, olive groves and over 15 hectares of vines. André and his team also grow and sell organic vegetables, and make and sell jams and vinegars. They are passionate about preserving traditional varieties, and traditional methods.

We’ve selected curated, and discounted, this six pack of wines from amongst André’s impressive range:

Sparkling White: Pim Pam Pum Pet Nat 2023 (13.5%) Naturally lightly sparkling, fresh & yeasty. A perfect aperitif, though good with white fish and seafood too. (£23 single bottle)

Orange: Pim Pam Pum Curtimenta 2022 (12%) Medium bodied Portuguese orange, with notes of Seville orange marmalade, dried apricots and almonds on the palate. Perfect with a handful of hazelnuts and a crumbly blue cheese. (£22 single bottle)

White: Ânfora de Baco branco 2023 (13%) An Amphora fermented white, made from Fernão Pires grapes. The inside of the amphora is coated in a natural pine tree resin, according to the ancient process used 2000 years ago by the Romans. Bold flavours here – preserved lemon, lime, fresh green apple. There is a memorably rich and waxy texture – it’s a touch reminiscent of a Chenin Blanc. (£23 single bottle)

Red: Ânfora de Baco tinto (14%) A partner red, produced in the same way. Smooth and medium-to-full-bodied, it’s a blend of Aragonez (Tempranillo), Syrah and Trincadeira. Notes of plum, fig and pine, and a slight vegetal note. (£23.50 single bottle)

White/red co-ferment: Medieval de Ourém  2023 (14%) Unusual and distinctive. A co-fermentation of 80% white and 20% red grapes, made according to a recipe used by Cistercian monks of the village of Ourém. Drank chilled, it feels like a white, with notes of ripe peach; drank at room temperature, it feels like a red, accenting notes of blackcurrant. (£22 single bottle)

Sweet (dessert) white: Cepa Pura late harvest 2023 (10% – 50cl) Deep golden in colour, with notes of honey and burstingly ripe apricots. Would match a brie type cheese, or baked or dried fruit based desserts. Or for a Portuguese pairing, try with pasteis de nata. (£33 single bottle)
