About Quinta do Montalto, Ânfora De Baco, Tinto, 2022.
Fresh medium bodied Portugese red, fermented in Amphora coated with natural pine tree resin, according to an ancient process used by the Romans 2000 years ago.
This vintage is a blend of Aragonez (Tempranillo), Syrah and Touriga Nacional; time on the lees gives this wine medium body and well integrated tannin.
Smooth and soft, with flavours of ripe and jammy blackcurrant and blackberry, herbal hints of pine and eucalyptus and a chocolatey richness to the palate.
Montalto are a mixed organic farm about an hour’s drive from Lisbon; they make an impressive array of wines from indigenous Portuguese varieties, and over the past few years have taken on several local abandoned vineyards, and nursed old vines back into production.
