About Quinta do Montalto, Vinha da Malhada, Bruto, 2022

Traditional method Portuguese sparkling from a family-run producer near Lisbon.

A blend of two indigenous grape varieties, with Arinto offering assertive acidity, and Fernão Pires lending body and weight. 18 months on the lees adds some a little toastiness to the fruity aromas of green apple, lemon and bergamot.

This quality of this vintage was recognised at Spain’s Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition in 2024, where this wine won a gold medal.

Montalto are a mixed organic farm about an hour’s drive from Lisbon; they make an impressive array of wines from indigenous Portuguese varieties, and over the past few years have taken on several local abandoned vineyards, and nursed old vines back into production.
