About Six Whites of Portugal
A case compiled of six new additions to our portfolio of exclusive imports.
The wines are drawn from two growers – Elisa Freire Lobo from the Dão in central Portugal, and André Duque Lourenço, founder of Gardunha Sul in Beira Baixa, near the Spanish border.
Freire Lobo, Sardanita Pet Nat 2022 (12.5%) – gloriously cloudy naturally sparkling wine. Surprisingly delicate flavours beneath its bold yeasty top note. Lemon, elderflower, custard apple
Freire Lobo, Vigno white 2022 (12.5%) – unoaked, fresh and accessible blend. 12 hours of skin contact adds body and a little tannin. Lemon, lime, green apple
Freire Lobo, Granite Terroir Field Blend 2022 (13.5%) – the Dão has a long regional tradition of making field blends, wines speak of a particular place rather than of a particular grape variety. There’s a powerful minerality here. Lemon, lemongrass, wet stone
Freire Lobo, Encruzado 2022 (13.5%) – a single varietal wine, made from one of Portugal’s most esteemed indigenous grapes. White flowers, almonds, grapefruit
Gardunha Sul, Gatafunho 2023 (11.5%) – no wonder this cat looks so cool, sipping a beverage as refreshing as this. A skin contact white or orange wine, with minimal tannin and delicate flavours. Blood orange, dried apricot and cinnamon
Gardunha Sul, Oxid Chestnut 2022 (11.5%) – same abv, but a much more fleshy, savoury and succulent white, matured in traditional chestnut barrels. Tangerine, chestnut, nutmeg
