About Bodegas Moraza, Rioja Tempranillo ‘Las Tasugueras’ 2017

Another single varietal Rioja, from a single vineyard (once badgered by badgers – hence the name).Weightier, warmer and more savoury than the Garnacha, with strawberry fruit character, some notes of balsamic, liquorice and leather. Really comes alive with aeration – decant if possible, or save some for the second night.

Janire Moraza is the sixth generation of her family to work the estate; her partner Patricio was making craft cider in Montreal when they met. They are reinventing Rioja. By harvesting early and keeping the alcohol levels lower (at 13% abv.), they are making the kind of fresh, fruity and unoaked wines Janire remembers her Grandfather enjoying.
