About Terrace Edge, Pinot Noir 2018

From a small family producer in Waipara / North Canterbury, an emerging wine region in the South Island, an hour north of Christchurch. Passionate horticulturalists, the Chapmans bought an old sheep paddock in 1999, planted vines and olives, and founded Terrace Edge.

They won the Riedel award for best organic producer in New Zealand in 2018, and again in 2021. We volunteered with this little family owned and operated estate for a week in 2018.

At an online tasting this year, Jill and Bruce Chapman mentioned that their 2016 Pinot was just coming into its own, so we bought as much as we could. And they weren’t kidding – strawberry and raspberry fruit, sweet spice (vanilla and cinnamon) from barrel ageing, and an earthy, savoury undertone, a classic hallmark of a good Pinot.
